Peterson has a police officer turned FBI agent named Alex Cross whom he reintroduces in this novel. There are nine other previous novels in which Alex Cross is featured. In the Alex Cross adventures he faces many types of dangerous and deadly forces. In London Bridges
he is confronted by a Russian super criminal that calls himself the Wolf and an assassin known as the Weasel. Cross has been chasing the latter throughout several of the novels. Each novel leaves you wanting more just to see if the chase will ever end.
In London Bridges the FBI brings Cross to a town called Sunrise Valley in Nevada where a devastating explosion was detonated destroying the town completely. The devastation was made to look as if the Army was responsible. It was Cross’s assignment to investigate the source and report what happened. Sounds easy enough if you are familiar with Cross and his abilities but , the investigation takes Cross through an adventure that is short of becoming the third world war. In his attempt to locate the source of this devastation he learns that the major cities throughout the world, i.e. Paris, London, New York, et al. are in jeopardy and threatened with total destruction giving the world powers only four days to thwart any further devastation.
