My Travels to Bulgaria-8-Visit to the Winter Sports Resort of Borovets

Review:VijaiKSharma
Borovets is a very popular winter sports resort in Sofia . Its top is 2,000 meters high, snow covered peak. The drive by road from Sofia up to the initial stage, takes about one and a half hours.  On the way, we came across an artificial lake called “Panchreva Lake” used for swimming, boating, and water-skiing. Lake was not frozen on the day of the visit. We also saw a road side monument, constructed for the Bulgarian special troops, for constructing roads and buildings in this hilly area. On the way up to the starting point of the winter resort, there are restaurants, rest houses, private cottages, a small town Somokov and other small villages.  After reaching the base of the trolley station, we took the trolley to go to the middle station, at first. Up to the middle station there are 23 columns for the ropeway. From there, we continued our journey, by a similar ropeway and trolley arrangement, up to the top of the mountain, which is the starting point for the skiers. There are 16 columns for the ropeway from the middle station to the top of the mountain. Each time the trolley passed over the columns, it gave a different feeling. The trolley was closed, but still it was very cold. From the trolley, we could see the ski-ways, tree-branches, mountain sides and other areas covered with a thick layer of snow. Occasionally snowflakes would fall down, from the snow covered branches of the trees, on the snow on the mountain side. Snow was also falling from the sky. All this presented a very good view.
Finally we reached the last station of the ropeway, just near the starting point of the skiing, Coming  out of the trolley in the open, we experienced falling snowflakes on our faces, saw white snow all around and felt extreme cold .
At the starting point there were many gents, ladies and young children, all with skiing outfits, dressed in colourful woollens, starting skiing one by one, down the slopes of the hills covered with snow. They would go up to the lowest base, come up again with the trolley, up to the top of the hill, to be followed by skiing, up to the lower base again. The people skiing down the slopes, as observed from the trolley, presented a very pleasing view. At the starting point, the skiers fix their special shoes on the skis and then they give themselves a forward motion for taking a start and thus go down the ski slopes. Even though snowflakes were falling we enjoyed them, made balls out of the snow flakes, held in our hands and threw on others. We went round this place and observed that the accumulated snow is periodically removed. At the peak there is a restaurant also, which is internally heated. We enjoyed a warm cup of tea in a warm atmosphere. We returned back by trolley and had once again a good view of the snow covered hills. During this return journey we saw a monument, having statues of mother and child.
