Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo

Review:rsastry

One of the highlights of my recent trip to Dubai was the visit to the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo. Located at the Dubai Mall, the Aquarium and the Zoo occupy two floors and contain aquatic flora and fauna. The Dubai Aquarium is recognized by the Guiness Book of World Records as the single largest aquatic panel for marine life.

The entrance to the Aquarium is the huge glass panel where multitudes of fishes including exotic fishes, sharks and sting rays are visible from the outside. It immediately grabs the attention of the visitors and attracts visitors. Apart from the huge walls of the glass panels there are also tunnels where one can stand under the fishes and enjoy the marine life from the bottom.

Apart from enjoying the varieties of fishes in the aquarium, one also gets to view a lot of the under sea fauna and the flora. The landscaping also mimics the ocean floor. There are ample photo and video opportunities with this background. The Aquarium also has professional photographers taking a snap with an exotic background for those wanting a nice photo for their drawing room.

In the second floor, the underwater zoo is a collection of individual aquariums with different kinds of sea animals. There were spider crabs, molluscs, jelly fishes, penguins that really lit up the zoo. If you are lucky you could see a feeding session of the penguins when the birds come really lively. The exhibits are well designed and gives the audience maximum visibility of these animals.

Apart from the normal visit, there are other activities that are available at the Dubai aquarium such as under water diving, watching the fishes from a cage and a glass bottom boat experience. But the entrance tickets are bit steep with a minimum of 50 Dirham as the entrance ticket for all including children above 3 years.

But all in all it is a great experience and a must see attraction for any visitors to Dubai.

Wetherspoons Hammersmith London UK

Review:SM THOMPSON

Here we all are again in London at the delightful English Bar Wetherspoons in Hammersmith in London and I had breakfast and it was very welcome on a snowy Easter Sunday with the gray clouds towering over the skyline in London.

My National Express Coach arrived early at Hammersmith Flyover and I walked to Hammersmith Town Hall and filled in some time until I got my thoughts together to write my poetry.

London is a great center and the UKs Capital City and seems to hold within its streets and houses many people from all over the world. I am sure I counted ten French Persons,
11 Irish Persons, 1 American and the rest of us were from Hampshire/Southampton.

The weather in London is frightfully cold and the temperature is 2 degrees below freezing .. good weather for walking briskly about the deserted city streets in Hammersmith London.

I decided to have an Italian Coffee just to make Easter a really real treat not a trick in sight! Great day at Wetherspoons Hammersmith London UK. Keep on writing ...

The Denver Museum of Miniature, Dolls and Toys

Review:ram002

The Denver Museum of Miniatures, dolls and toys is located at historic Pearce McAllister cottage, a large yellow house with a green roof in Gaylord Street, west of City Park. The preservation, exhibition and interpretation through visual arts using dolls and toys are the main highlights. Their aim is to reach their goals in such a way that the beneficiaries are the people of Rocky Mountains. It was founded in 1981 by the grass root community and was given support by many business owners, civic groups and organization of doll artists. During the years, 1981 up to 1987, despite of the crisis in public facilities and manpower, volunteers still continued their support to the museum and in fact, given their full service to have an excellent presentation of the exhibits to the community. Finally, in 1987, the museum was open for public viewing. There are allotted parking space in front of the museum for Handicaps only. But for others, they can park at the streets nearby because they have no parking lots available. There are accessible ways for the handicaps to view the exhibits safe and secure. Unfortunately, the second floor is not accessible for handicaps, but there is always room for help by some helpful people. There are also garden rooms to reserve for children’s party. It is very special for kids to have a special day full of fun and laughter at the garden room of the museum. They conduct workshops for those people who would like to learn how to make dolls and toys. Field trip at the museum is highly recommended for children to increase their knowledge on geography, history, architecture, art and science. Furthermore, reservation needs to be one month in advance for proper scheduling. Explore, learn and grow, these can only be happened in one recreational place like the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys.

The Lake of the Sisters and the Three Brothers, taiwan

Review:Kaaash
Mount Ali is located in central Taiwan. It is well known for its beautiful sunrise, seas of clouds, and huge redwoods. As a matter of fact, the Lake of the Sisters on Mount Ali is also a beautiful sight to see. Sometimes the clear lake water is like a mirror reflecting the bright sunshine while other times the lake surface embraces a layer of thin fog like a sheet of white veil.
There is a heartwarming legend about the Lake of the Sisters, which consists of two lakes, one larger than the other.
Once upon a time, only native Polynesians lived on Mount Ali. One tribal chief of these natives had two beautiful daughters. The elder one was called Awana and the younger one, Awacha. They liked to sing and dance. Especially when it came to nights of full moons, they always invited other young girls of the same age with them to go to the woods to sing and dance on the natural turf there. They looked very much like little lovely fairies.
Almost all native people living on Mount Ali were peaceful except one tribe''s chief named Mogulu. He was vicious and cruel and often took advantage of others. Since he was strong capable of killing a wild pig and a panther by himself, everybody, though disliking him, was afraid of him. People nicknamed him the Bear of Mount Ali.
Once Mogulu went hunting with two of his subordinates. They heard some bright singing in the woods. Following the sounds, they came upon Awana and Awacha with a group of young girls happily singing and dancing swiftly on the grass.
Mogulu said loudly to his subordinates, " They are really not bad-looking! "
Upon hearing his voice, all the girls stopped and stared angrily at Mogulu. "Ha! ha! ha!," Mogulu laughed very loudly. "Continue your singing and dancing. I am the Bear of Mount Ali. It is your luck to play in front of me! "
Upon hearing his nickname, the group of girls was frightened and ran away quickly. Only Awana and Awacha stayed.
Awana said in a huff, "How can you be so rude ? You think you can insult others without good reason just because of your strength? "
Awacha followed, " Can you be a hero by insulting girls? If you always behave like this, God will punish you."
Mogulu frowned and yelled flagitiously, "Shut up! How dare you speak to me like that!"
One of his subordinates whispered to him, "Chief, they are the most beautiful girls on Mount Ali. Why don''t you take them home as your concubines?"
Mogulu nodded, "Yes, not a bad idea! Each one of you grab one. Let''s go!"
The sisters were mad. Their faces were flushed. They struggled but were unable to loosen themselves from the strong hold of the two big men. Mogulu laughed.
Suddenly there came a shout, "Leave them alone!"
Two young men appeared from behind a tree. One of them said to Mogulu without the slightest fear, "Even though we two brothers are unable to match you, we cannot let you take these girls. We believe that the Mountain God will help us. "
Mogulu said contemptuously, "You will die before the Mountain God shows up. He cannot help you."
Suddenly a flash of light came down from the sky. The clear sky became dark. The ear shocking thunder scared Mogulu. One of his subordinates said to him with a trembling voice, "Chief, is the Mountain God angry?"
Mogulu was stunned but pretended to be undaunted. In a moment, however, he and his subordinates ran away timorously.
Once they ran away, the sky cleared up. The two sisters and the two brothers sang and danced happily in the woods. They forgot about their earlier incident with Mogulu.
A few days later, Mogulu was dissatisfied. He sent a messenger to notify the two sisters'' father, "I order you to send your two daughters to become my wives within three days. Otherwise, I''ll burn down your tribe and kill all your people."
This message spread across the tribe very quickly. Everybody was worried and fearful of the consequence. They did not like to sacrifice the two beautiful and tender sisters to Mogulu, but they were also afraid ofus and cruel behavior.
Three days passed. On the night of the third day, Awana and Awacha left the tribe quietly and walked the passage between the two tribes. They knelt down and prayed respectfully to the Mountain God. "Kindly God, please protect our tribe. Do not let Mogulu hurt anybody. If we have to suffer, let us two sisters take the responsibility!"
They prayed continuously and cried constantly. The tears wetted their clothes and the grass. It was near dawn when the first rays of sun came through the trees. Suddenly lighting flashed, followed by deafening thunder.
The Mountain God transformed Awana and Awacha into two lakes, one larger than the other, which were connected together. This cut off the passage between the two tribes.
The sun rose higher and the lake waters became so bright that they looked like two big mirrors. The water flickered like two sisters blinking their beautiful eyes.
Before long, Mogulu and a group of assistants, all carrying either knives or bows and arrows, came to the lake side.
"It''s strange! Where did these two lakes come from? They were not here three days ago!"
Mogulu and his men were puzzled and conferred with each other when the two sisters suddenly emerged from the water''s surface. The mountain breeze swung their black hair and red clothes while the water reflected the woods as well as their lovely figures. The elder sister said to Mogulu with a clear voice, "Mogulu, you have done too many bad things. If you do not repent and make a change, the Mountain God will punish you and disaster will fall upon you!"
Mogulu laughed loudly, "I am the great Bear of Mount Ali. What can the Mountain God do to me! You two come with me quickly."
The younger sister said angrily, "My sister, he does not repent and will not change. It is useless to advise him. Let the Mountain God punish him."
After this, the two sisters, holding their hands together, vanished into the water.
Mogulu shouted, "Do not escape!" and jumped promptly into the water in an attempt to catch them. As soon as he was in the water, a dark cloud appeared and blocked out the sky above the lakes. All of a sudden, lighting flashed, thunder roared, rain poured, and a gusty wind ripped across the land.
Mogulu struggled in the water blindly. He was trying to swim desperately in the sea, with no land in sight.
He continued to swim, swim, swim.. At last, he became frightened and desperately floundered in all directions. But no matter where he turned, he could see neither the two sisters nor the shore. Finally loosing all his strength, he drowned in the lake.
All his men were scared and ran away. This news soon spread all over Mount Ali.
When night came that day, two figures came to the lake shore, murmuring the names of the two sisters. They were the two young brothers who had rescued the sisters.
"The courageous Awana and Awacha, you must feel lonesome lying there. We will accompany you and stand by your sides.
For three days and three nights, they stood there. This sincerity touched the Mountain God. He transformed the two brothers into two big trees with their branches tied together. They stood there forever to accompany the Lake Sisters.
Since then, it is said that on nights of a full moon, the two sisters emerge from the lake water and walk to the land. They sing and dance around the Tree Brothers.
Under the bright moon and by the side of the lake, their dancing figures mix with their singing to enhance the charm and mystery of the Lake of the Sisters on Mount Ali.

1862: Vapor Yavari: Navigation on Lake Titicaca, Peru

Summary:EsperanzaNavarro
It is the story of the Yavari, the oldest single propeller driven iron ship operating en the world today; she sails on the world’s highest navigable waterway, Lake Titicaca, 12, 500 ft above sea level, which straddles the frontier between the high Andean countries of Peru and Bolivia. The actual story of the Yavari began in 1861. Today the ship is recognised by the National Historic Ships Committee of Great Britain as being in the same league as the Cutty Sark, Glenlee or Great Britain. Her attributes include being one of the earliest iron passenger /cargo steam sailers constructed in kit form, later to be ‘jumboized’. She also retains to this day, the collar which once enabled the propeller to be lifted and lowered. In 1861 Peru was a young republic. His president, Ramon Castilla ordered a ship of 300 tons for the Lake Titicaca. The order was placed with British Agents Anthony Gibbs & Sons, and the Peruvian admiral Ignacio Mariategui was dispatched to Britain to contract a shipyard to construct this vessel. The only method of transport up to Lake Titicaca was by mule and porter. Not long after his arrival in Great Britain, Admiral Mariategui discovered and informed his Government that a ship of 300 tons was too big to be built in individual parts light enough for mules to carry. Forthwith the order was changed to two smaller gunboats of 140 tons each. Mariategui commissioned the James Watt Foundry in Birmingham to build the two ships. They, in turn, subcontracted the construction of the wrought iron hulls to the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Co. In line with the very latest technology, each gunboat was bolted together and fitted out in its entirety in the –British shipyard. Each piece and part was then numbered and inventoried. Each ship was then completely disassembled and packed into packing cases, which in their turn, were duly numbered and inventoried. Finally, and together with the two propeller shafts, the Yavari and her sister ship, Yapura, were loaded on the Mayola, a ship bound for Arica, Peru. It arrived in Arica on 15th October 1862. In September 1863 the ships was dispatched by train from to Tacna on one of south America’s oldest railways, a distance of 37 miles across the world’s driest desert, the Atacama. In Tacna the packing cases were unpacked.
The items were then arranged in the order in which they would be required in the reassembly a so how it was intended they should leave the warehouse. It was estimated that the task to transport all the 2,766 smallest and lightest parts would take six months. But it took 7 years by reason of a War between Peru and Spain, and other respects. The pace of both the transportation and reassembly quicken in 1868. On 25th December 1870 the Yavari is finally launched. Until the late 1970s the Yavari continued to ply the Lake, the last years under the responsibility of the State Railways (ENAFER). In 1977 ENAFER made the Yavari and Yapura over to the Peruvian Navy and the names of the ships were changed to B.A.P. Chucuito and B.A.P. PUNO respectively. Having only limited resources, the Navy elected to maintain the Puno, and relegate the Yavari to serve as a place of detention for sailors. Thereafter no further attention was paid to her upkeep. Six years later, in 1983, believing the Yavari to have been built by Yarrows, the shipyard founded by her great grandfather, Sir Alfred Yarrow, Meriel Larken, the author, already a Peruphile, discovered the old iron lady slowly dying in a corner of Puno port. Although, in fact, the Yavari was not a Yarrow ship, the vessel’s historic value and potential for attracting revenue to one of the poorest regions of Peru were obvious. In 1987 The Yavari Project was founded in the United Kingdom and the Asociación Yavarí was formed in Peru, and in 17th February bought the Yavari from the Peruvian Navy. In 1989 began the restoration. At first the work was slow. Finally, in 1998, the Yavari was officially opened to the public. At the time of writing, she receives an average of 12,000 visitors a year from local school children to a range of tourists representing some 50 different countries.

Canada's Little War: Fighting for the British Empire in Southern Africa, 1899-1902

Summary:marjory kempe
The Boer War is just a footnote in our history, not even rating an entry in McClelland & Stewart's Canadian Encyclopedia. We remember it as a British concern that had had little to do with us, and to which we gave only token support. It was indeed, from a Canadian perspective, a "little war ". Yet Carman Miller, one of Canada’s foremost experts on this subject, believes that this war was a significant epoch in our country and deserves greater consideration. Mr. Miller's most persuasive argument is the connection he makes between the Boer War and World War I. Most Canadian historians would say that Canada came of age during the Great War. For the first time we stood as an equal among the nations of the world, not merely as Great Britain’s dependent. Yet this is only part of the truth. When Canadian soldiers requested the right to fight under their own officers and in their own regiments during World War I, the reputation they earned for courage and resourcefulness during the Boer War helped to support their cause. Many Canadian officers in the later conflict had sharpened their leadership skills in South Africa. One man we would recognize, John McRae, served on the veldt years before he saw the poppies of Flanders fields. That point is well made, and is the strength of the book. Where the book stumbles is in the battle scenes. Mr. Miller fails to find the balance between too little and too much detail in his accounts, making the picture either too muddled or too vague. Battlefield stories can't help but produce memorable, flesh-and-blood characters, but I had the feeling that this same material in another writer's hands could have come to life so much more. One of the stories that did stand out reflected the Boers’ attitude toward their enemies. After a particularly ferocious fight, an outnumbered group of Canadians finally surrendered. Even though the Canadians had decimated the ranks of their attackers, the Boers congratulated them on their courage, helped them bury their comrades, and set them free to return to their regiment. Mr. Miller also illustrates in great detail the effect that the war had upon the civilian population of Canada. The patriotism that swept the country was unlike anything seen before.
Entire communities raised money to contribute to the comfort of soldiers and their families. People wrote sentimental, stirring ballads that celebrated the gallantry of the Canadian soldier and moved the masses to tears. Manufacturers produced patriotic souvenirs of every description--mugs, handkerchiefs, toy soldiers--anything with a war theme. Yet this enthusiasm only highlighted a deep rift in the country. While English Canada largely embraced the cause, French Canada was disdainful, its leaders asking in Parliament why Canada had to fight battles for a foreign power. This division erupted into violence briefly in the Montreal Flag Riot of 1900 and remained festering for years afterward. The title of this book designating the Boer War as a little war seems very appropriate when Mr. Miller presents the battle statistics. Only seven thousand troops were sent, in groups of one or two thousand at a time, and for a service limited to one year. Two hundred and seventy soldiers were killed over the course of three years. These numbers seem ludicrously small compared with the horrific numbers of casualties from later wars, yet the impact of these deaths on the country was profound, and Boer War veterans met to commemorate them every year until 1962. This book continues in that tradition of remembrance. With a wealth of illustrations ranging from pictures of war artifacts, contemporary posters, portraits and photographs of soldiers and their uniforms, it resembles a scrapbook. Even if you’re not in the market for a thoughtful, scholarly discourse on the relevance of a forgotten war, you might enjoy spending a few minutes flipping through the pages and reading the captions to the illustrations to become acquainted wa little-known story of our past.

The Adventure of English: The Biography of a Language

Summary:writerros
This book tells the story of the English language from the post-Roman Germanic invaders who imposed their language on the resident Celts, right up to the present day. What makes this book such a fascinating read is the way that Bragg personifies the English language, treating its journey as a kind of adventure story, without losing any of his academic authority over the subject. The book begins with the introduction of a germanic language which became the common tongue as the Celts withdrew to the outer regions of the British Isles. Much of our language is still founded in this Old Norse language, and although the language has changed almost out of recognition since this time, our hundred most common words came from this original language. The invasion of the Normans is described by Bragg as the potential destruction of the English language. For many years the people of the court spoke French, and English was in danger of disappearing. But it survived through the common people, and by taking on many Norman words and integrating them into itself. Bragg tells how, when the King wanted to speak to his people, he spoke in English, and eventually English replaced French in schools until English had once again become the dominant language. Chaucer and Shakespeare, of course, have chapters to themselves. In Chaucer we see how French language and ideas had penetrated into the English psyche and how he himself influenced our language while giving us a superb picture of English characters in his Canterbury Tales. Between Chaucer and Shakespeare, we see the beginnings of the fight to bring religious texts from Latin into English. A fight that resulted in loss of life and a stubborn resistance from the Church that seems startling to our 20th century attitudes. Shakespeare expanded the language, and many of the words and phrases we use without thinking today were invented by him. Phrases such as, playing ‘fast and loose’, ‘budge an inch’, ‘vanish into thin air’ and many, many more all began with Shakespeare. He expressed different levels of society in language and, as Bragg describes: ‘gave us a new world in words and insights which would colour, help, deepen, lighten and depict our lives in thought and feeling.’ From there we travel to America and see how English travelled with the early settlers to the New World and how it developed there into its various Amercian characteristics through the experiences of the pioneers who travelled into and settled in the Wild West, the influence of the Native Americans, and of the American South where words and phrases from slaves integrated themselves into the language.
From America, they came back to us and are now part of our every-day speech. As the enlightenment in England progressed, attempts to control the language, including correct spelling and grammar, were begun, as well as the idea of a ‘proper’ way to speak in terms of accent. However, as we moved into the industrial revolution, more words came into being, and the greater awareness of the classes and differences in pronunciation and accent. Dickens used language to describe these differences to great effect, including cockney rhyming slang and the language of the streets. Again, we leave the British Isles to journey to India, and see how the British Empire took on words such as ‘bungalow’, ‘bandanna’, ‘bangle’, ‘jungle’, ‘lilac’ and ‘yoga’. From there we travel to the West Indies and then to Australia where the language developed its own Australian characteristics and, again, came back to us with words that we now take for granted. There is a wonderful interpretation of the song Waltzing Matilda which is mainly made up of Australian out-back slang. With a quick look at the not-so-pretty aspects of the English language (racial insults, swear words etc), Bragg brings us up to the present day, and how our language is now being influenced by the modern-day computer age and the recent development of mobile phone texting language. English is now spoken as a second language in many countries of the world and influences other languages, as it was once infuenced itself. The book is a fascinating read, and if you ever thought that there was a ‘correct’ way to speak the English language, this book will challenge that belief as Bragg explains how a living language can only survive through change and influence from other languages. English continues to develop and change, and will do so as long as it survives.

TALACAUVERY—A PLACE OF PILGRIMAGE AND POPULAR DESTINATION FOR LOVERS OF NATURE

Review:KVVenkataramana
In a span of two years, I had visited Talacauvery, the birthplace of river Cauvery twice. Cauvery evokes different feelings for different people. People in Coorg (now called Kodagu) district literally worship river Cauvery as goddess. They consider her the bestower of prosperity, plenty, and peace; others treat her as the symbol of sacrifice quenching the thirst of people, cattle, wild animals, birds, and cultivated crops all along the way from Brahmagiri to the Bay of Bengal. Many temples which lie on her banks as she flows through Karnataka and Tamilnadu have a special significance for devotees, as Cauvery’s waters wash the feet of gods in those temples.
Talacauvery is at the foot of Brahmagiri hills. It is about 44 kms from Madikeri, the district headquarters of Kodagu. The road to Talacauvery passes through zigzag route on either side of which you can see coffee plantations interspersed with pepper and orange crops, paddy fields, banana and cardamom crops. On the way to Talacauvery, we come across another holy place, a small village, called Bhagamandala where Sri Bhagandeshwara temple is situated. According to Skanda Purana, this temple is named after Bhagandamuni who installed a Shivalinga at this site. This is also the place where Agastya Rishi is said to have meditated. The king Dodda Veerarajendra renovated this temple which had been partially damaged in a bitter battle in 1790. On the main door of the temple, ‘V’ in Kannada is found inscribed to indicate that the king Dodda Veerarajendra had renovated it.
Bhagamandala is also known for its famous ‘Triveni Sangam’ which is the confluence of three rivers, Cauvery, Kannike and the imaginary (invisible) Sujyothi. Cauvery is called the ‘Ganga of South’ and is one of the seven holy rivers of India, the others being Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Saraswati, Narmada and Sindhu. A dip in the ‘Triveni Sangam’ completes the Hindu ‘shraddha’ (a ritual performed for the deceased parents) rites for the departed soul. It is a common sight to see people from various southern states coming to Bhagamandala for tonsuring of their heads as a part of ‘shraddha’ ritual and taking a dip in the holy sangam.
From Bhagamandala, the road to Talacauvery passes through steep hills with sharp curves. (Distance from Bhagamandala to Talacauvery is 8 kms.) Along the way, we encounter a spot called ‘viewpoint’ where one could enjoy the breathtaking view of overlapping hills and valleys. This spot is at a height of 3700’ from the mean sea level.
Talacauvery is the place where river Cauvery originates. Here, we see a ‘kundike’ (a perennial water-pot or a tiny pond) which is the source of the river, at the foot of the Brahmagiri hill. Every year, on October 17/18, (on the day of Tula or Kaveri Sankramana) at an auspicious moment, water from this ‘kundike’ gushes forth, and people in lakhs throng this place to witness this event. In front of the ‘kundike’, is a bigger pond where devotees dip their heads in water and move near the ‘kundike’ where a priest pours the sacred water from the ‘kundike’ in a copper tumbler on their heads. Then a puja is performed on behalf of the devotees by the priest to the ‘kundike’ (or Goddess Cauvery).
If we climb a few steps from one corner of the ‘kundike’, we can see two small shrines dedicated to Lord Ganapathi and Lord Agasthyeshwara. To the right of these shrines is Brahmagiri Dwara (Gateway to Brahmagiri hill) which leads to Brahmagiri hill. The peak of Brahmagiri hill (three hundred feet from the source of the river) can be reached by devotees by climbing steep stone steps. According to legend, seven sages had meditated at the peak ages ago.
One can enjoy the panoramic view of the blue hills, clouds and valleys from this peak. Cool, incessant breeze keeps company of the tourists as they savour the beauty of the distant horizon hugged by layers and layers of hills.
Talacauvery is not only a place of pilgrimage but also a popular destination for lovers of nature.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Review:JasonWalker

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a great family destination. There is a great selection of entertainment and restaurants for families and young couples without children. Myrtle Beach has over 1,400 restaurants in what is referred to as the Grand Strand area. So you have everything from local, fine dining to typical chain restaurants to all your fast food places.

There is plenty of entertainment for day and night. Obviously, there is miles and miles of beautiful shoreline. There a many miniature golf courses, par 3, and full size golf courses. There are two outlet centers, two retail malls, a lifestyle shopping center, and two entertainment center shopping areas. There are two major dinner theatres and two major variety shows performing nightly.

Hotels in the area are reasonable and there are resort spas available if that's your thing. Overall, Myrtle Beach is a great destination. Its affordable with lots of shopping, dining, and entertainment. There is something to keep the whole family busy.

Boracay Philippines - Island Beach Resor

Review:clickzmusic
Boracay Resort is one of the hottest travel destinations in the Philippines attracting thousands of foreign travelers every season. The world famous
Boracay Island is located in Aklan province 345 kms. South of Manila.
Boracay Philippines is a beautiful small island surrounded by coral reefs and located one kilometer north-west of Panay in the island Visayas. It is 7 kilometer long and 1 kilometer width at its narrowest point.

Boracay is made up of three little communities: Yapak in the north, Balabag in the middle, and Manoc-manoc in the south. Hilly elevations up to 100 meters above sea level characterize Yapak and Manoc-manoc. Intertwining trails link the small three villages together but sometimes may lead to a lush tropical jungles.
Boracay Island is accessible by air from Manila or Cebu through the two principal air gateways: the Caticlan Airport and the Kalibo Airport. Public transportation and Electricity are remain relatively scarce.

Once on the island, you will find out that getting around is easy and simple. There are three categories of transportion: motorized tricycles and pedicabs shared with other passengers, individually rented motorbikes and bicycles, and shuttle service offered by some hotel owners. Taxi''s are not available however, since everything in
Boracay is more or less within walking distance, you will find most likely to join the majority of visitors moving around
Boracay Island on foot.

The best part of Boracay is its 4 kilometer "White Sand Beach", also known as the Long Beach by its residents. It is located at the West Coast between the villages of Balabag and Angol, and some experienced travelers claim it to be the "Finest Beach of all Asia". The water is shallow, sand is finer and more brighter than any most beaches in the archipelago. There are about 350 beach hotel resorts with more than 2000 rooms to suit virtually everyone''s taste.

What Is the Victorian Novel ?

Review:rizwantata

Victorian novel or Victorian literature is the literature produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901) (the Victorian era). It forms a link and transition between the writers of the romantic period and the very different literature of the 20th century.
The 19th century saw the novel become the leading form of literature in English. The works by pre-Victorian writers such as Jane Austen and Walter Scott had perfected both closely-observed social satire and adventure stories. Popular works opened a market for the novel amongst a reading public. The 19th century is often regarded as a high point in British literature as well as in other countries such as France, the United States and Russia. Books, and novels in particular, became ubiquitous, and the "Victorian novelist" created legacy works with continuing appeal.
Significant Victorian novelists and poets include: Matthew Arnold, the Brontë sisters (Emily, Anne and Charlotte Brontë), Christina Rossetti, Robert Browning, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Joseph Conrad, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, Wilkie Collins, Charles Dickens, Benjamin Disraeli, George Eliot, George Meredith, Elizabeth Gaskell, George Gissing, Richard Jefferies, Thomas Hardy, A. E. Housman, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Louis Stevenson, Bram Stoker, Algernon Charles Swinburne, Philip Meadows Taylor, Alfred Lord Tennyson, William Thackeray, Anthony Trollope, George MacDonald, G.M. Hopkins, Oscar Wilde, Lewis Carroll and H. G. Wells (although many people consider his writing to be more of the Edwardian age).

The style of the Victorian novel

Victorian novels tend to be idealized portraits of difficult lives in which hard work, perseverance, love and luck win out in the end; virtue would be rewarded and wrongdoers are suitably punished. They tended to be of an improving nature with a central moral lesson at heart. While this formula was the basis for much of earlier Victorian fiction, the situation became more complex as the century progressed.

The influence of Victorian literature.

Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Victorian fiction outside of Victoria's domains.
Writers from the United States and the British colonies of Australia, New Zealand and Canada were influenced by the literature of Britain and are often classed as a part of Victorian literature, although they were gradually developing their own distinctive voices.Victorian writers of Canadian literature include Grant Allen, Susanna Moodie and Catherine Parr Traill. Australian literature has the poets Adam Lindsay Gordon and Banjo Paterson, who wrote Waltzing Matilda and New Zealand literature includes Thomas Bracken and Frederick Edward Maning. From the sphere of literature of the United States during this time are some of the country's greats including: Emily Dickinson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., Henry James, Herman Melville, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry David Thoreau, Mark Twain and Walt Whitman.
The problem with the classification of Victorian literature is great difference between the early works of the period and the later works which had more in common with the writers of the Edwardian period and many writers straddle this divide. People such as Arthur Conan Doyle, Rudyard Kipling, H. G. Wells, Bram Stoker, H. Rider Haggard, Jerome K. Jerome and Joseph Conrad all wrote some of their important works during Victoria's reign but the sensibility of their writing is frequently regarded as Edwardian.

The persistent popular embrace of Victorian literature has had a profound influence on modern literature and media. Writers such as Dickens and the Brontë sisters still sell robustly on most book resellers' lists and are frequently adapted into films and television productions, both directly and in modernized retellings. In addition, many modern novels such as A Great and Terrible Beauty demonstrate that the intricate cultural mores of the Victorian era finds a home in the modern cultural psyche.

300 (A graphic novel - ancient Sparta)

Review:Skarr

This is an abstract of a graphic novel published by Frank Miller , of Sin City fame. For those unfamiliar with this title, the '300' in the title refers to those brave Spartan warriors who held tens of thousands of Persian warriors at a narrow pass near Thermopylae, known as the "Hot Gates" in 480 BC, preventing the early demise of Greek civilization as we know it. According to many scholars, this was the single most important battle and the modern world would be much different today, if it were not for this all important sacrifice, as each of the 300 died to the very last man, while the rest of the Greek city states still debated and discussed on how to combat this threat. What drew me the most was the element of sacrifice, as each man knew that this battle would be his last and there would be no question of survival - none. The most awe inspiring thing about this battle was not only the sacrifice element of this small band of Spartans, led by their great King Leonidas but also the implications if they hadn't volunteered their lives to hold off Xerxes and his Persian horde. Outnumbered a 100 to 1, they fought on bravely to the last man and there is almost unanimous consent from various scholars that if the Spartans had not held them off until the rest of the Greeks regrouped, buying them precious time, much of today's western civilization as we know it would not exist. All in all, this is a fantastic graphic novel and meant for adults, due to the scenes of violence which are very explicit in the last part, as the Spartans meet the charge of the Persian warriors in one final, death defying charge, very reminiscent of the charge of the Light Brigade which resulted in the death of six hundred men. The art in the novel is historically accurate and I especially liked the first part, which is simple and presents some scenes of everyday life in a Spartan city. The visual feel is almost cinematic in parts and it is no wonder that his books have adapted so well to film, particularly with regard to the 'Sin City' series. I understand that there are ongoing talks to adapt '300' into a movie and if they manage to introduce a female element with a possible love element and sub plot, this would translate very well into a great historical epic, a must see for any fans of Greece, Sparta or the ancient world.
There is also the added attraction that the events depicted are all real and did happen, which lends to the overall allure of the project, if it comes to fruitition. What I would really like to see in the film project is more time being devoted to the training of the Spartan youth and how they were groomed into the greatest warriors that this earth has ever produced. The Spartans left behind very little in terms of art, buildings or other tangible evidence of their greatness. What they did manage to leave behind though was their legendary courage, their strength of character and their extraordinary fighting abilities as they were groomed as warriors to become the perfect fighting machines. A Spartan was always a soldier, through and through. I think the graphic novel captures this very well and portrays the harsh reality behind it, as the young boys were literally robbed of their childhood and put through a relentless physical regimen of hard training. Ultimately, I think this is what led to their downfall as they were overpowered later in history by the smarter Athenians who relied more on tactics and strategy than brute strength. History ultimately teaches us all a lesson and for that reason alone, everyone should attempt to learn a little history and read about times past and the birth and death of great civilizations. I think Miller's book is great for that reason alone as it not only teaches us history but also presents it in a stark visual format that brings the full impact of those times to the average reader.

My Travels to Bulgaria-8-Visit to the Winter Sports Resort of Borovets

Review:VijaiKSharma
Borovets is a very popular winter sports resort in Sofia . Its top is 2,000 meters high, snow covered peak. The drive by road from Sofia up to the initial stage, takes about one and a half hours.  On the way, we came across an artificial lake called “Panchreva Lake” used for swimming, boating, and water-skiing. Lake was not frozen on the day of the visit. We also saw a road side monument, constructed for the Bulgarian special troops, for constructing roads and buildings in this hilly area. On the way up to the starting point of the winter resort, there are restaurants, rest houses, private cottages, a small town Somokov and other small villages.  After reaching the base of the trolley station, we took the trolley to go to the middle station, at first. Up to the middle station there are 23 columns for the ropeway. From there, we continued our journey, by a similar ropeway and trolley arrangement, up to the top of the mountain, which is the starting point for the skiers. There are 16 columns for the ropeway from the middle station to the top of the mountain. Each time the trolley passed over the columns, it gave a different feeling. The trolley was closed, but still it was very cold. From the trolley, we could see the ski-ways, tree-branches, mountain sides and other areas covered with a thick layer of snow. Occasionally snowflakes would fall down, from the snow covered branches of the trees, on the snow on the mountain side. Snow was also falling from the sky. All this presented a very good view.
Finally we reached the last station of the ropeway, just near the starting point of the skiing, Coming  out of the trolley in the open, we experienced falling snowflakes on our faces, saw white snow all around and felt extreme cold .
At the starting point there were many gents, ladies and young children, all with skiing outfits, dressed in colourful woollens, starting skiing one by one, down the slopes of the hills covered with snow. They would go up to the lowest base, come up again with the trolley, up to the top of the hill, to be followed by skiing, up to the lower base again. The people skiing down the slopes, as observed from the trolley, presented a very pleasing view. At the starting point, the skiers fix their special shoes on the skis and then they give themselves a forward motion for taking a start and thus go down the ski slopes. Even though snowflakes were falling we enjoyed them, made balls out of the snow flakes, held in our hands and threw on others. We went round this place and observed that the accumulated snow is periodically removed. At the peak there is a restaurant also, which is internally heated. We enjoyed a warm cup of tea in a warm atmosphere. We returned back by trolley and had once again a good view of the snow covered hills. During this return journey we saw a monument, having statues of mother and child.

Golden Sands - One of the Most Fun Destinations in Bulgaria

Review:JoJoGal
Golden Sands is a fairly large resort town on the northern coast of the Black Sea in Bulgaria. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bulgaria, attracting mostly young people who love to have fun and party, but also others.

There are plenty of things to do in Golden Sands Bulgaria, including many restaurants, a very nice and generous casino and many different sports. So even if you are not a party animal you should be able to enjoy yourself here!

Golden Sands Bulgaria is not very good for shopping, even though you can do some shopping here. Most people go to the bigger city of Varna to do shopping instead, which is actually a good thing, since Golden Sands is slightly more expensive compared to Varna.

You do not need a man to go down to Egypt to see pyramids. Because of the few places in Bulgaria also has pyramids

The Beautiful Bulgaria

Review:bunny500
BULGARIA

You do not need a man to go down to Egypt to see pyramids . Because of the few places in Bulgaria also has pyramids. True, they had nothing to do with the masterpieces of human civilization, but they are natural phenomena.

Most popular now here are the pyramids of Melnik. But the truth is that for them, but rather because wine mountain town full of hotels and houses on the weekend. A beautiful rock formations are accepted rather as part of the landscape.

Pyramids around the area on the southwest slopes of Pirin. Melnik reach 100 m and the color is white to pale yellow. Their slopes are sandy and in places almost completely vertical. With their tops grow shrubs and grass. Besides those around Melnik are very beautiful and pyramids around the nearby village Kurlanovo. There are other rock formations such as sponges, needles and cones.

Another group of pyramids, which is becoming increasingly popular among tourists are Stob. Located on the west slope of Rila, above the village of Stob, whose name they bear. You can combine the trip with them to visit the Rila Monastery. More on the main road there are huge signs indicating their location. And the church at the end of the village has a parking space.

7-8 years before the pyramids led to only a plain path, but today the area is gradually improves over the steep slopes are draped wooden railings. From next year is expected to enter the rock formations in the list of the 100 tourist sites, but now collects a fee of $ 2 a promise to the foot path to the top of the asphalt path and make it more comfortable for walking. Walk around half an hour.

Pyramids themselves are scattered into two groups of people called by different names - towers, crags, Samodivski chimneys, Bride and others. The first group has wood trim, but the top is steep and unsafe, so we must be very careful.

The view from the top, however, is magnificent and worth the climb.

The average height of the pyramids is between 7 and 10 meters. The color of the rocks varies between yellow and brown. Because locals say they are especially beautiful at sunset or moonlight. Most are conical, and some end with a stone cap, resembling mushrooms. Their help in shaping many melting glaciers in the Rila mountain spring. Torrential rain, heat, cold and wind continue its "sculptural" work.

There are three legends about the origin of the pyramids, are associated with weddings and love.

The most popular of them tells that once the village matchmakers Kolibite took a girl from the neighboring village of Stob. Since that time young married without knowing each other, the girl was veiled according to custom. With the passage of the wedding procession on the southern slope of the hill, however Kulsko wind blew and lifted the red veil of the bride. She was so beautiful that the best man could not restrain myself and tried to kiss her. Horrified, turned into stone-laws remained so ever with their hats.

There's a legend and the impossible love between a Bulgarian girl and a Turkish man. They dreamed that their love is doomed because of differences in religion. Desperately, she jumped from the rock and the place is a pyramid, which people called Bride.

According to another story of two young village fell in love. Her mother did not agree, but they decided it will raise the wedding. When she realized she cursed her daughter - her father in law as a kiss, all the wedding guests to become stones. So it happened.

Whatever the truth, the rock formations are very beautiful and the place is absolutely charming.

Pyramids has much closer to Sofia - on the village of Katina. They are not popular and that makes them difficult to detect.

Katina to be reached quickly - for 30-40 minutes by car from downtown, with Shuttle bus 18 or 27. The problem is that only one place in the village has a plaque indicating the direction. Floor is not any street, namely the "pyramid". Almost at the end it is the small path to the beautiful rock formations, which, however, was almost impassable from the branches.

Pyramids themselves are also "buried" in the trees and plants are visible only expressed in late autumn and winter when leaves are windfalls. The very rock formations change from yellow-brown to burgundy color. They, however, from year to year because of eroding established near an artificial lake and vegetation coming.

Becoming smaller and wonder soon disappear entirely.

One of the most beautiful rock formations in the region of Kardjali - over Zimzelen villages, clematis and volunteer. Unlike other pyramids that are formed in volcanic tuffs. The researchers said they have occurred before 50 million years of volcanic ash at the bottom of the former Eocene sea, whose bottom is believed to have been present Eastern Rhodopes. The rocks are saturated with iron and manganese oxides, which leads to their varied colors - pink, green, yellow or white.

The adventure to be adopted in Bulgaria - An adoption story

Summary:dteneva
Like a lot of the people who has been adopted or simply connected their life with the adoption process I had my own sad story which I would like to share with you. 13 years ago I understood for my adoption. And so 13 years ago there was a big secret. The secret of my life. So, a long time ago when 1I was 6 and I was just a young scared girl… I understood for my adoption. “Adopted” - Did I know what does it mean? I think I know already… My journey has began on 3rd of March, 1978 in one hospital. The birth name given me from my biological mother was Happy. And this is the beginning of my story. A woman who was a doctor from a small town, married, mother of two has came to work in a bigger hospital, here where I was born. She wanted to hide her pregnancy from the others. That’s why she moved out from the small town with me in her womb. One man – my biological mother’s husband and also a teacher worked abroad. Two more children in the family – my oldest brothers or sisters (who knows), probably have their own families and children already… Here the story ends and begins a new story a little bit different than the other but also interesting and… A woman – a teacher and a man – her husband – a mechanic, meet each other, fall in love and create a family. On the next six years they waited to have their own child but it never happened. And until September 4th 1978, when their dreams came true and a little miracle came in their life… Six months ago a baby was born on a big city hospital and right after that this baby were sent to an children home never seen its mother… but waiting to find a family. And this is our story: I had very difficult childhood because of the beliefs that the adopted children are second hand. My adoptive father parents thought I’m not a good enough to be a part of this family. I was always separated from my cousins without a reason. But I didn’t know the simple fact that I’m an adopted child. Many, many years I grew up with all those fears in my heart and I never realized what the truth is. I only new that I’m good enough and I have the right to be loved like all others. But I lived 16 years under a pressure, abused and victimized. My poor adoptive mother she loved me so much but She never find the right time to tell me what the horrible secret they hide from me.
And so it was so hard for her to love me in this way – watching the sadness in my eyes… After my 16th birthday I remember playing with the children from the neighborhood and then something really big happened in my life… -You’re nobody’s child you are a small stupid bustard – she said laughing on me. It was an old lady living in our block. -I’m sorry but I’m not so sure what does it mean - answered I, already scared enough. -Don’t You know? You are adopted which means nobody’s, second hand… At this moment I had nothing else to say. My life was turned up side down. I just started to cry and cry and cry… This lady changed my whole life and my future. On the same day I told my parents how much I love them and they are my only parents who I know and I want to have. And then they said they don’t care for me anymore and I’m free to go wherever I wish… Now I’m 29 years old and for 13 years I changed my life for good. Till this day I live with my beloved parents. We live together just because there is no way for us to be separated anymore. My mother helped me to start searching for my biological parents and my father gives me hug every day with a smile and the blessed “I love you daughter!” Just because I never thought it can be in different way – I believed in them I teached them to believe in me. For those 13 years they grew up much more than me. Every day I’m keep telling them: We are a family – You have only me, I have only You and this is right. I love Youso, so much and I’ll never leave You. I never found my relatives but I want to thank them so much. This unknowun lady made the biggest present in our life. And that is the end of my story, but this is not the end of our love – our journey starts right on this moment when me, my mother and my father said “YES” to the adventure to be blessed with the adoption!

SCARLET TEARS FLOW IN LONDON

Review:OSINACHI

Scarlet Tears Flow in London

The breaking news is heart breaking.
Millions of Londoners are mourning.
They will continue to harrow in sorrow till tomorrow.
The Queen of England is in sorrow.
Who will comfort the mother who has lost over forty of her children?
Who will comfort the bereaved brethren?

The shocking news of the bomb explosions tore the hearts of millions all over the world as the bad news spread throughout the news channels from the UK to the rest of the world.

The death toll has risen to over 50 people dead and over 700 others are injured and many of them are in critical conditions of emergency. Scores have suffered severe burns from the blasts on the bus and in the subway commuters trains. Condolences are being sent in from all over the world and only God knows how the bereaved are feeling right now. Will they be able to sleep tonight? And will the survivors be able to live without having the nightmares of the horrors of the tragedy?

How could the perpetrators of these horrific acts of terrorism be so ruthless to wreck the lives of innocent commuters? What could have provoked them to cause such a catastrophic havoc in London at such a time as this when there was overwhelming excitement in London as the Londoners were overjoyed since they heard the good news of winning the hosting rights to the 2012 Olympic Games that was only announced less than twenty-four hours ago by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Singapore. And just as the Prime Minister, Tony Blair was doing his best as the host of the G-8 Summit in Gleneagles, Scotland. How could these harbingers of doom be so callous and diabolical?

They are warning us that London will not be safe for the 2012 Olympic Games? That our lives are in danger of their sudden destructive attacks? And that the G-8 cannot help or save us from their own evil agenda?

But, will they escape from the long arms of justice or from the wrath of nemesis? Surely, the blood-thirsty perpetrators of these crimes against humanity will not go unpunished.

The notoriety and monstrosity of terrorism have become the worst nightmares of our generation. And we all live in fear and trembling with our hearts in our mouths, gaping and gasping for breath as we now live with the recurrent horrors of these terrors of the earth.
